About me

I am a tutor at St. John’s College.

I was born in Zhenjiang, China, and grew up in the neighboring city, Suzhou, surrounded by its coursing rivers. At 17, I came to the United States to study mathematics at Northwestern, where, inadvertently, I discovered philosophy. In 2012, I transferred to St John’s College in Annapolis for its Great Books Program and, after graduating, continued studying philosophy before receiving my PhD from the University of Notre Dame in 2022. My research interests lie mainly in metaphysics. I wrote my dissertation on a theory of artifacts as entities constitutively dependent on collective intentionality.

I am a literary translator on occasion and review Chinese books in translation here.
